Research #1 (US partner):
Probabilistic description of charged particle dynamics within the shock front and implications for the shocks in the outer heliosphere. Theory+numerical analysis (NOT simulations) +data analysis (mainly Voyager, also Artemis and STEREO).
Research #2 (EU international team):
Collisionless shock structure, including fields and particles. Heliospheric and supernova shocks. Theory+numerical analysis (NOT simulations) +data analysis (especially MMS).
In both research topics there is sufficient material for MSc or PhD (more than one). It is possible to combine. Both funded (#1 from July 1, 2020, #2 from January, 1, 2021).
Required previous knowledge: Electro 1, Thermo 1.
Recommended previous knowledge: Introduction to Computational Physics.
Required in parallel: Plasma physics (other courses according to the Astrophysics track of MSc).
